Here it is! The second part of the most anticipated series “The Power of Our Thoughts”. I really appreciate all the kind words and feedback I received from the first part, The Effects of Negative Thoughts. On this second part I am going to write about the Power of Positive Thinking. Many of you have heard that if you think positive you will bring positive things. This is absolutely true but do you know that positive thinking is more powerful than that? Positive thinking can have a big impact in your overall life. It could be responsible of bringing inner peace, better health, improved relationship, professional success and of course happiness.
Now the reality is that not everyone believes or accepts this as a real theory. Many people are skeptical and just refer to this as nonsense. Among those who believe it, not many really understand how to use efficiently. How many of you heard someone said “Don’t worry, think positive” when you are down or worried? They say it but do not know what those words really mean or how to use them correctly. Positive thinking is REAL; it is a mental attitude that anticipates great and constructive results. This is how our mind works in positive and negative outcomes: Our thoughts become images or words and those images or words become actions or behaviors. When our thoughts are positive and we have a positive attitude we develop pleasant feelings and practical images then our “mind’s eye” will project the results we really want and our body will act upon them.
Positive thinking as well as negative can be very contagious. Those around us can be affected by our feelings, emotions or thoughts. What you are thinking can be transferred subconsciously to your body language. We are energy beings and we can sense other people energy or aura. That is why you would like to be surrounded by positive people and avoid those who are negative. When you are providing any kind of service, you are willing to give the extra mile to those who are positive and avoid the negative ones.
Ok, how do we turn our minds to think positive? Well honestly nothing changes overnight, positive attitude and thoughts comes with training, practice and inner work. There are tons of ways or exercises you can do or practice to develop positive thinking. I will share some with you but I will suggest you to search for more, it won’t hurt!
Ø Write or say positive affirmations as soon as you wake up, such as “Today will be a great day”. Repeat it or say it to yourself several times throughout your morning.
Ø Visualize constructive and beneficial outcomes in any situation.
Ø Use positive words in your inner thoughts or dialogues.
Ø For any negative thoughts you have, write or replace them with 2 positive ones.
Ø Smile more and help others, this helps to feel and think more positive.
Ø When worried or sad, try to remember happy feelings or experiences.
These are some of the exercises I use myself and with my clients. Don’t be disappointed if you find any inner resistance when trying to replace negative thoughts. This will pass but you need to be persistent and eventually your mind will start to think positively. Ok my friends, by writing all this I am not telling you that ALL your negative thoughts will disappear and you will no longer have them but that you will definitely have more control over them. By having control of your thoughts you will have more control of your emotions and therefore your actions.
